Back and forth the top two teams go. And as it has in several years’ past, the 2018 Leaderboard title will come down to the final event of the season with the extra incentives of the 3/3/3 format.
Ty Kovach and Allen Freeman birdied their last two holes to post a 4-under par score of 32 in the better ball format on the back nine to win Week 17. They also captured one of two skins won on the evening, when Kovach made birdie on the par-3 12th.
But leaders Mike Simpson and Jim Krivanek, playing with Kovach / Freeman, finished tied for second place to back off the challengers a bit. Shayne Bishop and Ken Koprivec also shot 33 to finish T2.
So with these Week 17 result, Simpson maintains the top spot on the 2018 Leaderboard by about $20, with Freeman and Kovach tied right behind him. Krivanek moves to fourth place, about $86 behind.
Austin and Cliff Griffith nabbed the other skin won on the evening with a birdie on the par-4 13th.
BIG MONEY FINAL WEEK + STEAK: Next week Monday, September 17th will be the final event of the season, and with it the expanded 3/3/3 format and a steak night. The season’s final week is $10 extra per man per 3-hole segment, meaning big pots are up for grabs for scramble / better ball / shamble plus the overall total and skins. So remember to bring an extra $30 for “the threes” and an extra $15 for a steak dinner with all the trimmings…
