Ty Kovach and Allen Freeman ran in jello for seven holes then closed with Freeman’s birdie on 17 and Kovach’s 35-foot bomb birdie on 18 to win Week 5 of the 2018 Chippewa Scratch League.
In the better ball format on the back nine, Kovach and Freeman nipped the team of current Leaderboard leader Kyle Jones and his partner Stephen Guerrier by one shot.
Jones missed a short birdie putt at the last that would have tied the two teams on the evening, but it was a wash: earlier, Freeman had gifted them by missing a short birdie putt at the par-3 12th that gave Jones/Guerrier a skin.
Danny Marr and Bobby Spino earned a T3 along with a skin on the par-4 16th, which vaulted the pair into T2 on the Leaderboard. They pushed Shayne Bishop down to fourth by 12 bucks even though he and Ken Koprivec also earned a skin in Week 5.
Jones has a $70 lead thus far, but the Leaderboard is bunched and no team has yet had a truly big night on the season…
