Shayne Bishop and Ken Koprivec posted a solid 6-under par 30 in the scramble format on the back nine at Chippewa Golf Club on Monday to win Week 7 honors.
They had an assist from one of the evil golf gods.
Ty Kovach and Allen Freeman had a birdie putt from above the hole on the 18th to get to 7-under par on the evening. They took a run at the win, but the attempt left the pair with an 10-foot comebacker for par. Freeman just missed right and Kovach knew exactly where to hit the par putt. And Kovach did what he needed to do, perfectly hitting the center of the cup with perfect pace.
But instead of staying in the hole, the ball hit the metal hole liner on its way down and bounced back out of the hole. The resulting bogey put the pair into a tie for second place with their fellow competitors, Mike Simpson and Jim Krivanek, who were stunned as well.
Evil.
To the good, Freeman and Kovach did earn a skin for their eagle on the par-5 11th, splitting the skins pot with Week 8 winners Bishop and Koprivec, who made birdie at the par-3 17th.
With this week’s win and skin, Shayne Bishop now sits atop the 2018 Leaderboard, having supplanted Kyle Jones. Kovach and Freeman now sit T3, with Koprivec immediately behind them.
SCHEDULE NOTE: CHIPPEWA SCRATCH LEAGUE WEEK 8 WILL BE PLAYED THIS COMING MONDAY JULY 2nd. Since July 4th falls two days later, the mid-week holiday and does not affect the normal league date. So see you next Monday…
