The first warm dry Monday evening of the season, a golf course in great shape, and 20 teams competing made Week 5 of the 2019 Chippewa Scratch League a big success.
The 3/3/3 format and a tasty steak after play simply added to the feels.
Rob Schustrich and Mitch Levengood paired to rip apart the front side of Chippewa Golf Club, posting an eyebrow-raising 8-under par 40 total via -3 in the scramble, -3 in the better ball, and -2 in the aggregate shamble formats.
Wow.
But there was even more great scoring.
Sam Spino and Dave Oates went birdie/birdie/eagle to own the Scramble segment.
Both team Schustrich/Levengood and team Spino/Oates made two birdies and a par at the challenging 4/5/6 holes.
And the teams of Bobby Spino / John Kabasky and Bobby Harmon / Eric Coleman each shot 3-under par in the aggregate shamble format.
Harmon and Coleman earned one of two skins won on the evening by making a total score of 5 on the par-4 ninth: Coleman drove it 10 yards short of the green from the old man tees, Harmon made a putt from the fairway for eagle, then Coleman hit his Texas wedge to 5 inches to seal the skin winner.
The other skin was won by the Snyder family, as son Vaughn and pop Dave made a double-birdie 6 on the par-4 eighth. With that skin and their segment finishes, Vaughn Snyder jumps to the top of the 2019 Chippewa Scratch League leaderboard over Mike Simpson, with Dave Snyder now in third!
A great night. Hopefully the first of many more to come for the 2019 Chippewa Scratch League season…
