Another significant Northeast Ohio golf practice range will make way for new development.
West Pines Golf Range in Avon, a fixture along Interstate 90, was sold to Chester Road Development LLC just before Christmas for a tidy $4.5 million, according to the Lorain County Auditor’s website. The property sale closed this week.
West Pines had been owned and operated by longtime pro and 2009 Northern Ohio PGA Hall of Fame member Bob Barto through a company called Cut Shot LLC.
The property will be developed into an office park.
No official announcement was made as to the range’s closing, but the facility will not open again. The phone number for the facility has been disconnected, the doors are still closed as of April 1st, and according to one NEOHgolf.com reader there is a large dumpster in the parking lot.
There has been significant and ever-expanding growth in that section of Lorain County since the building of Avon Commons back in 2001, so a sale for development comes as no surprise.
The loss of West Pines follows the recent story regarding the soon-to-close Golf Improvement Center in Medina, slated to shut down at the end of April.
