In what could be considered a ‘home game,’ Steve Weir of Berea won the 2011 Lake Erie Golf Tour event at Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinckley today. In wet conditions, Weir fired an impressive 5-under par 67 to win by one shot over former Kent State standout Nick Latimer.
Championship Golf Association Director Jeff Jenkins announced at noon today that this Saturday’s stroke play tournament at Tanglewood National Golf Club in Chagrin Falls has been canceled, as only 12 players registered even after an extension of the entry deadline.

With winds of 15-20 mph that kept the rest of the field over par, Ty Kovach and Allen Freeman posted a 5-under par score of 65 in the combined total format on the front nine in the Chippewa Scratch League on Monday evening, winning by a whopping 7 shots.
Dave Oates and Jordan Grubb finished in a first place tie in the Stark County Amateur Golf Association’s 2011 Spring Classic at the Sanctuary Golf Club in North Canton on Sunday. Each player posted a 2-under par score of 69.
The Devlin Course at Quail Hollow Golf Club played tough Thursday evening, with rough as long and as wet as it could be.
But the 22 players who competed still made their share of birdies: only one hole of the nine was left without a birdie.
