Chris Okeson and Rob Shustrich ripped up the front nine in the scramble format at Chippewa Monday, posting a 7-under 28 to nip fellow competitors Ty Kovach and Allen Freeman by a single shot. Okeson and Shustritch trailed by one standing on the eighth tee, but clutch birdies on the last two holes swung the event their way.

Controversy as CGA Shortens Ironwood to 9 Holes
Play was stopped after a significant rainstorm hit the Championship Golf Association’s stroke play event at Ironwood Golf Course on Saturday. After a brief time in the clubhouse, CGA Director Jeff Jenkins called the remainder of the day a washout and decided the event would revert to the nine holes that all players had completed as final.
That decision didn’t sit well with some of the players who were making a charge on the back nine.

The Medalist Tour has canceled its Mahoning County Classic scheduled for Thursday, June 3rd at Doughton Golf Club in Hubbard. The small number of player registrations and a golf course that might not be well suited to a professional event led to the late decision.
But on the flip side, that’s good news for the players who are competing in the next tournament…
