A post to the jobs board of Davey Tree confirms that the company will take on the project of getting Highland Park Golf Course owned by the City of Cleveland back into playable shape for what’s left of the 2018 season.
The previous management company, MAN Golf, abandoned the course and its contract option after the 2017 season.
The City of Cleveland Recreation Department seemed to be taken by surprise with MAN’s move, and only recently came to an agreement with Davey Tree’s golf division to tackle the tangle of rough and uncut greens at Highland. Almost no work has been done to the course through late-May of this year, so the work is significant.
The course is soft-scheduled for an end-of-June opening.
Cleveland Chief Operating Officer Darnell Brown says the city will likely lose about $300,000 on the 2018 golf season at Highland Park Golf Course, according to Newschannel 5.
The deal with Davey Tree is a paid maintenance contract for the 2018 season. The City will look for a new company at a longer term deal starting in 2019.
