Dick’s and Golf Galaxy Fire 500+ PGA Pros

Golf GalaxyDick’s Sporting Goods and its subsidiary Golf Galaxy will ‘lay off’ 500+ PGA professionals as the retailer’s sales numbers continue to drop, according to a report by ESPN.

Northeast Ohio has several stores under each brand.

The two chains hire PGA of America members as a competitive advantage against other golf retailers, but that decision did not translate directly into revenues. So the firings come as a cost-cutting move.

The PGA of America is refunding this year’s membership dues to PGA members who were let go by Dick’s as a show of support.

Dick’s CEO Ed Stack said that the company’s overall golf business missed its first-quarter sales plan by $34 million, and that he expected a downward trend for the rest of the year.
