Clare Yeazell, a Bowling Green Falcon golfer playing out of Tri County Golf Ranch, outdueled Eleanor Hudepohl, a former Xavier and Creighton collegiate golfer from O’Bannon Creek Golf Club, to win the Greater Cincinnati Golf Association’s 2025 Metropolitan Women’s Amateur Championship on Friday at Clovernook Country Club.
The pair began the final round of the 54-hole scratch stroke play championship tied at even par, eight shots clear from the rest of the field. Both players made some bogeys on the front nine — three for Hudepohl and four for Yeazell — but Yeazell dropped in two birdies going out to lead by one at the turn.
When Hudepohl started the back nine bogey/double against a par/birdie by Yeazell, the championship looked to be turning into a run-away. But championship golf can get weird, and the finish from there was a roller-coaster.
Yeazell made bogey at 14 but still lead Hudepohl by four. The pair heated up on the next two holes, matching birdies on 15 and 16.
But then, the unthinkable: Yeazell made a triple-bogey 8 on the par-5 17th to cut the lead down to one shot with just one hole to play.
Yeazell kept her composure after the miscue, posted a birdie at the last against Hudepohl’s par, and earned a two-shot victory in the 110th playing of the championship.
