Jon Kaplan + Kasey Nafzger from Powell and Delaware made birdie on their final three holes to best by a single shot the 2023 champions Josh Veith + Nick Reardon from Dublin and Galloway in the Ohio Golf Association’s Two-Man Best Ball Championship.
Kaplan + Nafzger started the day one shot behind the lead after a first-round 65, and matched it with another on Tuesday. It was Kaplan who made the three closing birdies, but Nafzger covered critical pars on three holes earlier in the round.
Veith + Reardon looked to have victory in hand after shooting 3-under par on the front side then adding birdies at 13 and 14 to go up by one. But both players posted their only better ball bogey of the tournament at the 17th hole, suffering a two-shot swing against the eventual winners.
In the Senior Division, defending champions David Clancy + Peter Betzold of Springboro and West Chester cruised to a four-shot victory, shooting an 11-under par total with 65-66=131.
In the Super Senior Division, Northern Ohioans Jeffrey Knox + Marc Fried earned a comeback victory with a second-round 67 and a 5-under par total, topping Bill Telzerow + Randy Kauffman and Craig Bell + Tim Hickman by one shot.
