The 27th Annual Women’s Ohio State Senior Amateur Championship wrapped up from Lancaster Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon. The two-day tournament was filled with competition, camaraderie, and celebration of the impact that the WOSGA tournament series has had on all of the participants.
Lynn Thompson is very familiar with what it takes to bring home the hardware in this tournament, having won eight times in the past. Even though she would enter the final day with a four stroke lead, Lynn knew that she would have to battle throughout the day. After starting with a birdie, Lynn would bogey the following three holes, making things interesting.
Lynn would go on to par the rest of the holes on the front nine, which would end up being the difference. Lynn would say afterwards that she knew she did not have her best game today, but would power through and post an 84. This would be enough for Lynn to claim her 9th Ohio Women’s Senior Amateur Championship trophy; winning the tournament 33% of the years it has been held!
For the first time in the tournaments history, there was a second Division added for players that would like to compete outside of the Championship Division. The Division would be named after Pauline Whitacre, who was a three time winner of the Women’s Ohio State Amateur Championship and huge advocate for Women’s Golf across the state.
Allison Cress would win the Division in its inaugural season in wire-to-wire fashion. Cress would post a 42-42 on Tuesday en route to an eight stroke victory.
Another great season for the Women’s Ohio State Golf Association is now in the books! We can’t wait to see everyone next year.
