Governor Prohibits “Recreational Sports Tournaments” Until May 1st

In an updated stay-at-home order from the Governor’s office that went into effect on Monday, April 6th, a new section specifically prohibits “recreational sports tournaments” and “organized recreational sports leagues” for adults and youths in the state of Ohio until May 1st.

The verbal explanation of that announcement seemed to be directed toward sports played in close personal proximity or in confined spaces. But it is unlikely that anyone in state government will go on record to exempt golf tournaments from this order — even though golf operations are likely made better by being organized online in advance.

So unfortunately, Northeast Ohio Golf is forced to cancel all of the tournaments currently posted to its Tournament Calendar in the month of April, to abide by this order.

WHAT THAT MEANS FOR THE REST OF APRIL

For Saturday, the NEOH.GOLF Stableford + Skins Tournament is officially canceled. All entry fee payments received to date will be refunded in the manner paid.

The other events scheduled for April have been removed from the Calendar as well.

Golf is still a permitted “outdoor recreational activity” during the Governor’s April shutdown order. Only “recreational sports tournaments” are now prohibited. So it’s possible that some now-canceled April tournaments may wish to host a Play Day during their originally scheduled tee time blocks. Or those events might choose to move to a later date. Check back with Northeast Ohio Golf in the days ahead for more details…
