Heisterkamp, Moore to Enter NOPGA Hall of Fame

Two men with extensive careers in professional golf have been chosen for induction into the Northern Ohio Professional Golfers Association Hall-of-Fame.

They are:

MIKE HEISTERKAMP, who has been associated with the Chagrin Valley Country Club for nearly 30 years.

GREG MOORE, who has spent more than 51 years as a golf professional and executive at many prestigious clubs.

Both men will be inducted during the Northern Ohio PGA Awards Dinner on December 7 at Westfield Country Club.

Heisterkamp has been a member of the NOPGA for 28 years and has been a model of professionalism at Chagrin Valley Country Club, first as head golf professional from 1994 until 2017 and currently as the club’s general manager.

A two-time Golf Professional of the Year (2009 and 2013), his leadership and contributions within the NOPGA have been comprehensive. He served as secretary from 2008 to 2010, vice president from 2010 through 2012 and president from 2012 through 2014. He was an honorary president from 2014 through 2016.

Prior to becoming secretary, he was a member of the board of directors and chaired the tournament committee. He became the driving force and was instrumental in improving the sites of Section events. He enlisted fellow pros at such elite clubs as Canterbury, Shaker Heights, Kirtland, Pepper Pike, Lakewood and Westwood and encouraged them to take avenues to host Section events.

His resume also includes being named to two distinguished awards. He was the winner of the distinguished Bill Strausbaugh Award in 2010 for his service to the NOPGA Section, his leadership, involvement in civic functions and charitable causes while continually mentoring and assisting young professionals in their career paths.

He also was named as NOPGA Merchandiser of the Year (Private Facilities) in 2001 and 2006.

Moore, who was born and raised in Athens, Ohio, also a two-time selection as the Golf Professional of the Year (1984 and 1986). He began his professional career at Westbrook Country Club before relocating out of state. He went on to leadership positions at Fox Den Country Club (Knoxville), Cobblestone Creek Country Club (Victor, N.Y.) Regents’ Glen Country Club (York, Pa.), Cherokee Valley Golf Club (Greenville, S.C.) and Athens Country Club. However, during his time with the NOPGA he served as the Section secretary (1984), president (1985-1987) and honorary president (1988-89).

During that time, he was instrumental in establishing the NOPGA Associates Program and the Associates’ Pro-Am. Both events helped raise significant funds for junior golf. He also played in charity events for two years, raising $11,000 for Section charities and leading to the Section receiving the Herb Graffis Award in recognition for its charitable efforts.

Moore and his wife, Pam, have returned to Ohio and now live in Athens. The couple has two grown children and three grandchildren.
