Holt Goes 7 Playoff Holes at 2016 U.S. Amateur

Ian Holt at 2016 US AmateurStow’s Ian Holt went seven playoff holes in an effort to get into the 64-player match play field at the 2016 U.S. Amateur at Oakland Hills Country Club, but a bogey ended his tournament.

Holt and Dover’s Ryan Troyer started the playoff as one of 23 players who shot 2-over par in qualifying, seeking the last 8 match play spots available.

Troyer was eliminated with a double-bogey on the first playoff hole.

Holt made six consecutive pars and survived as the field was whittled down to three players for the last match play spot.

But on the seventh hole, Holt and another competitor made bogey to end the playoff.

Aurora’s Tyler McHugh and Barberton’s Chase Johnson also competed at Oakland Hills, but missed the cut after 36-holes as each player shot 8-over par.
