Kent State Men Miss Match Play at 2018 NCAA Championship

Kent State GolfThe No. 29 Kent State Men’s Golf Team missed qualifying for the match play portion of the 2018 NCAA National Championship, finishing in 10th place at 19-over par (288-291-293-299=1,171). The Flashes finished two strokes back of eighth-place Texas A&M, the team that earned the final match play spot.

For the tournament, senior Chase Johnson finished in a tie for 15th at even-par 288. Johnson carded a fourth-round score of 2-over par 74. He completed the round with three birdies and an eagle for the second-time of the tournament.

Ian Holt and Bjarki Petursson both finished in a tie for 37th at 7-over par 295. Holt fired a 1-over par 73 in the final stroke play round and went 15 holes with par or better, including two birdies. Petursson finished the day at 3-over par 75 with one birdie.

Teammates Josh Gilkison and Gisli Sveinbergsson both carded a 77 (+5) for the day. Gilkison finished the tournament in a tie for 57th at 12-over par 300 and Sveinbergsson settled in a tie for 69th at 16-over par 304.
