Michigan’s Reversible Golf Course?

The Loop Hole 2 / 16

In the center of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, a new golf course will open in Roscommon, MI in 2016 from architect Tom Doak. This unique layout will have 18 greens and 36 tees, allowing it to be played in two directions: clockwise one day and counter-clockwise the next.

It will be called The Loop, part of the Forest Dunes Golf Club complex.

The entire layout is just under 200 acres, but 95 of those acres are seeded fairway to account for teeing areas and multiple-angle approaches to the greens. Fifty acres is considered large for fairway areas.

  1. The ultimate gimmick. Like Alan Shepard’s 6 iron shot off the lunar surface of the moon in 1969 which is still going.

  2. I think the design had merit until the fairway area almost doubled which would be a drain financially. The Old Course at St. Andrews was originally designed what today would be considered backwards and many look forward to playing the original design on April 1st each year.
