Can two accomplished college athletes from Northeast Ohio — both of whom were track stars, not golfers — reach the pro tours by training for just one year?
That is the claim made by Tour Express, a new pro golf preparation program recently launched by Gravity Golf at Boca Lago Country Club in Boca Raton, FL.
According to a recent press release posted in the golf email newsletter Morning Read, recent graduate athletes who learn the Gravity Golf swing and other training methods provided by instructor David Lee (pictured left) will be prepared for a pro-golf career — in just one year.
More specifically:
Using his Gravity Golf method, Lee and his instructors will prepare recent college graduates—all high-level, Division I athletes but, critically, not golfers—to be competitive and have pro-golf careers. According to Lee, it normally takes 5 to 10 years to turn a beginner into a professional; Tour Express will do it in one year.
Two of the first four students in this program are from the Greater Cleveland area, pictured here:
Phil Jagers, Solon, Ohio. A high-school wrestler, football player, and track star, he became a three-time NCAA All-American in track and field. Jagers contended for the Olympics and World Championships in discus and shot. He was a Mid-American Conference record holder while at University of Akron, from which he graduated in biochemistry in 2017.
Alexis Gray, Cleveland, Ohio. A three-sport athlete in high school, she received a scholarship to University of Cincinnati where she threw discus, shot put, hammer, and weight. She graduated UC in 2018.
