NOGA’s Bob Wharton Passes

Former Executive Director of the Northern Ohio Golf Association, Bob Wharton, passed away on Friday, March 15th at the age of 88.

Wharton led NOGA from 1993 to 2005.

Before joining NOGA as Director, Wharton worked for 40 years at B.F. Goodrich. As a volunteer and NOGA Board member playing out of Oberlin Country Club, he almost single-handedly saved the Plain Dealer Junior Tournament in the mid-80s.

After becoming Executive Director, Wharton focused on building a headquarters at the site of the North Olmsted Golf Course, to bring together NOGA offices, a NOGA Hall of Fame, the Northern Ohio Golf Course Superintendent’s Association Hall of Fame, NOGA’s junior programs, turfgrass projects, and more.

In 2001, Bob helped launch NOGA’s Return to Golf program, now known as The Turn, to help people with physical disabilities through a dedicated space within NOGA’s North Olmsted facility.

The NOGA headquarters is now known as the Wharton Golf Center.
