29th Annual Matches Set for October 6–8 at Wedgewood
Executive Director David Griffith on Tuesday announced the names of the 16 players and three captains who will represent the Northern Ohio Section of the Professional Golfers Association in the 29th annual Ohio Cup Matches, to be played October 6-8 at Wedgewood Golf and Country Club in Powell, Ohio.
The Ohio Cup is a team event between members of the NOPGA and their counterparts from the Southern Ohio PGA. Similar to the Ryder Cup, match play scoring is the format for three varied competitions – Four Ball, Foursomes and Singles. One point is awarded for a victory. Ties earn one-half point.
Four Ball, also known as Better Ball, means the two players play their own ball for the duration of the hole with the better score being used for the team. Under the Foursomes format players take alternate shots until the ball is holed.
The teams are comprised of nine players from the season-long Ohio Cup Points Lists and one captain’s choice for the Regular Team and five players and one captain’s pick for the Senior Team.
NOPGA Hall-of-Famer Mitch Camp, who guided the NOPGA to a 17-15 victory last year, returns for his second year of captaincy and will be a playing captain. He will be assisted by fellow Hall-of-Famers Tom Waitrovich and Steve Parker.
