Coldstream Country Club hosted four Friday morning matches for the Quarterfinals of the 2025 Greater Cincinnati Golf Association’s Tony Blom Metropolitan Amateur Championship:
Solomon Petrie had the easiest time of the morning rounds, dispatching Mason Deal by 3&2.
The two Coldstream members who had made their way to the semifinals couldn’t best their competition. Even though both matches went all the way to the 18th hole, they both finished as 1-up losses for the CCC members: Brock Rumpke took down member Nicolas Paxson, and Charlie Mullin beat member Bill Williamson.
AJ Wilhelm had a bit more breathing room in his match, winning 2&1 over Tyler Brockwell.
After a quick lunch break, the afternoon Semis featured a pair of epic back-and-forth battles.
The first match out was between Solomon Petrie and Brock Rumpke.
Rumpke jumped up two over Petrie by winning the fourth and seventh holes, but Petrie squared the match by taking the eighth and ninth. Not to be outdone, Rumpke won two in a row of his own at 10 and 11, but Petrie clawed one back on the 13th. Rumpke reclaimed the hole on the 14th to go back up by two. When Petrie won the 16th to get back to 1-down, it set up a nail-biter finish. But Rumpke birdied the last to close the door on Petrie and earn a 2-up victory.
The match between Charlie Mullin and AJ Wilhelm was even more chaotic.
Mullin took the first hole with a par. From there, the pair traded wins back and forth from the third through the sixth, leaving Mullin at 1-up. But Wilhelm took the eighth, and the match remained square through the turn. Then Wilhelm went on a run, winning 10 with an eagle, then 12 and 14 with pars. Thought to be done when he went dormie at 16, Mullin went 3-4-3 to close the final three holes and tie the match! The playoff was a bit off script, as Mullin won in 19 holes with a bogey to Wilhelm’s double.
The Finals match between Brock Rumpke vs. Charlie Mullin will begin at 7:30am on Saturday at Coldstream.
