Thursday showcased both the Round of 32 and Round of 16 matches in the Greater Cincinnati Golf Association’s 116th playing of the Tony Blom Metropolitan Amateur Championship at Coldstream Country Club.
Yes, there were some upsets.
In the Round of 32, the 36th seed Mikey Schutte topped number 4 seed Evan Stewart by a stout 3&2 margin.
And the 35th seed Tyler Brockwell took down the third-seeded Brett Podobinski at the final hole, winning 1-up.
The Round of 16 had a few more surprises, all of them coming in incredibly tight matches.
17th seeded Mason Deal bested the defending champion and number 1 seed Christopher Harpum, 1-up.
#26 Charlie Mullin bested #10 David Tepe in 19 holes.
And #35 Tyler Brockwell got past #14 Grant Tabar 1-up.
