Rick Deichert of Shaker Heights and Jeff Sawitke from Painesville share the first round lead of the 2025 Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship after 18 holes at Manakiki Golf Course in Willoughby Hills.
Diechert went bogey-free with five birdies, including four on the back nine capped off with a birdie at the last. Sawitke had two birdies and a bogey on the front side and also laid down four back-nine birdies.
Canton’s Vaughn Snyder holds the third place position after a 3-under par 69, and Otterbein golfer Ian Morgan of LaGrange sits solo fourth after a 70.
The Cleveland Am field heads to Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in Brecksville on Saturday morning for Round 2 (Starting Times >). After 36 holes, the field will be cut in half to 26 players and ties, with those making it through the cut returning to Manakiki on Sunday for the finale.
