Four teams finished in a tie for first place at the Akron District Golf Association’s 3-Player Scramble at Brookledge Golf Course in Cuyahoga Falls on Saturday.
Three of those four teams had a chance to make birdie at the last to separate themselves for a solo victory but didn’t pull it off.
Brian Vincelette + Colton Vincelette + David Laib played in the first group of the tournament and posted the early mark of 16-under par 55. They made three eagles in their round at holes 3, 7, and 11.
The teams of Scott McVey + Barry Riggs + Scott Weekly and Ryan Stefanski + Brian Smith + Ben Hogan each made two eagles and three pars in shooting 26-29=55.
All three of the teams above made par at the 18th hole.
Anthony Briggs + Adam Frey + Nicholas Anagnost did make birdie at the last, but theirs was to reach the 16-under par total. But that team made a bogey at the difficult par-3 eighth hole earlier in their round, so they needed it to grab a winner’s share.
There was only one skin won on the day, and that team swept a huge amount from the dual skins pots. Brian Gamble holed out from 145 yards on the par-4 9th hole. With $1,600 in the skins pot in the main game and another $2,100 in the bonus skins game, Brian Gamble + Nate Mathews + Wyatt Suntala won a total of $3,700 on the day.
The team of Randy Skorman + Steve Feist + Doug Flemming made an eagle-2 on the par-4 10th hole early in the day, and had to feel pretty good about their skin chance. But it was squashed near the end of the field by the team of Josh Prok + Mitch Levengood + Kevin Miller.
The next event on the 2024 season schedule is the ADGA Joe Ungvary Sr. Memorial Jumble at Good Park Golf Course in Akron on Saturday, June 1st.
