Ty Kovach of Canal Fulton and Allen Freeman of Brecksville made four eagles on their way to a tournament-record tying score of 58 in the Akron District Golf Association’s 2-Player Scramble at Turkeyfoot Lake Golf Links in Akron on Saturday.
Making long putts from everywhere, especially on the back nine, their 13-under par total score was good for a four shot victory over four teams: David Canter + Raul Mendoza, David Oates + Vaughn Snyder, Jimmy Wild + Kyle Jones, and Mike Simpson + Jim Krivanek.
However, the T2 teams of Canter + Mendoza and Wild + Jones also shared in the hefty skins pot with eagles of their own, boosting their winnings past the eventual champions — who won no skins even with four eagles!
The winning score of 58 tied Kovach + Freeman for the tournament record along side Howard Clendenin + Steve Blackburn (2017) and Jeremy King + Pete Skirpstas (2012).
