Brian Smith + Christopher Brown were able to find their stride on the back-nine at Ellsworth Meadows on Friday afternoon. The pairing finished the front-nine at one over par, but bounced back immediately with two birdies to start the back. Smith + Brown would then go birdie – eagle on 16 and 17 to pull away from the rest of the Championship Division, posting a 3-under par total of 68.
Howard Clendenin + Jeff Semple were able to overcome a triple bogey on the second hole, bouncing back with four birdies the rest of the round. Clendenin + Semple only posted 1 bogey outside of the second hole, which allowed the team to claw back into the lead. The pairing would post a one-under 35 on the back to secure the top spot in the Senior Division and one of two rounds under par in the whole field.
The next event on the NOGA Great Lakes Auto Scratch Series schedule is the Stroke Play #4 at Glenmoor Country Club in Canton this coming Tuesday, September 2.
