In a unique competitive format today at Catawba Island Club, three teams tied at the top in the Gross Division while the Net Division title was taken in a runaway in the Northern Ohio Golf Association’s PrimePay Toledo Modified Scotch Tournament.
First, an outline of the format: two partners, both play from the tee, then each hits their partner’s ball for the second shot. They pick the best from there then alternate until holed. Also known as the “no apologies allowed” format.
A score of 74 earned a share of the NOGA Scotch Gross title, shot by Michael A Trapp + Craig Soule (1 birdie, 3 bogeys), Brian Hinkle + Andrew Van Horn (3 birdies, 5 bogeys) , and Andrew Gunn + Paul Strack (3 birdies, 3 bogeys and a double).
On the Net side, Andrew Grombacher + George Simon shot an adjusted 7-under par 65 to win by two shots over Tom Bollenbacher + Mike Powell.
In the Five Iron Golf Closest-to-the-Pin Contest at Catawba Island Club, Phil Covell won the $250 Five Iron Golf Gift Card with the closest approach of the day to 10-feet 11-inches on the 145-yard par-3 9th hole. This Five Iron Golf CTP contest will be run at every NOGA Net event in 2025, with a $250 card up for grabs each time.
