Avon Lake’s Andrew Kaye + Mason Frazier of Wooster raked the pot in the OHIO.GOLF 2-Player Scramble on Saturday at The Quarry Golf Club in Canton.
The two former CSU Viking golfers posted a solid 11-under par total of 61 to win the tournament by two shots, and also took the entirety of the skins pot with an eagle at the par-5 first hole and a birdie at the long-into-the-wind par-3 17th.
Nick Anagnost + David Sotka from Willing and Chardon jumped out to the early lead with a sizzling 7-under par front nine. But they stalled on the back, coming home at just 2-under par from there to finish solo second.
That slow back nine by Anagnost + Sotka allowed Kaye + Frazier to pass them by with a scorching finish, making birdie on four of their final six holes.
Andy Pappas + Nicklaus Pidgeon from Salem shared T3 with Canton’s David Oates and last-minute substitute player Troy Schonover, the GM at The Quarry, at 8-under par 64.
The weather early in the morning on Saturday saw flash-flood like rains both north and south of the golf course, but little overnight rain at The Quarry and zero rain just before or during the round. Incredibly lucky, and a great call by Tournament Director Seamus Hough to play on.
