Jared Jones had been trending. A T4 finish at the Queen City Classic in early July and a T6 at last week’s Summer Pro-Pro set the stage for his return to the top of the leaderboard. But positive momentum only goes so far, and it took a truly special round of golf to seal the deal at the SOPGA Classic at Clovernook Country Club.
Jones shot a bogey-free 65 to win by one stroke on Monday, closing out his victory with a birdie-birdie-par finish at Clovernook. He had to go low, as 19 Southern Ohio PGA Professionals shot under par and 14 players finished within four shots of the lead.
Michael Auterson also delivered another standout performance, closing with four straight birdies to post a 66 and take the lead into the clubhouse, only to be edged out late by Jones. It marks Auterson’s third solo second-place finish of 2025.
The win is Jones’s first since returning to the Southern Ohio Section after spending several years in Houston, Texas. Now at Scioto Country Club, Jones previously worked at Muirfield Village Golf Club. He last won in 2015 at the SOPGA Assistant Professional Championship at Country Club of the North, where he defeated his now colleague at Scioto, Chris Yoder, by three shots.
In the Senior Division, Sam Arnold from Vineyard Golf Course posted 67 to top Joe Moore of Beavercreek Golf Club by one.
Next up on the SOPGA Tournament Schedule is a return to Dayton Country Club for the SOPGA Stableford Championship, which recently hosted the 48th SOPGA Assistant Professional Championship earlier this month. The Section Professional Championship at Miami Valley Golf Club follows the week after.
