RESULTS: 2025 Tigertown Open

Tigertown OpenNew Philadelphia’s Blake Sattler is now a three-time winner of the Tigertown Open.

The champion in 2020 and again in 2022, Sattler played in the morning wave in 2025, posted a bogey-free 9-under par 63 that included an eagle on both a par-4 and a par-5, and won by a single shot.

Playing the back nine first, Sattler made eagle-2 at the reachable par-4 14th then birdied the par-5 15th to post 34. After the turn, he went to work: a birdie at 1, an eagle-3 at the par-5 third (good for a skin), and birdies at 4, 5 and 8 rounded out the day.

Sattler had his chasers.

Also playing in the early wave and also starting on the back nine first, Minerva’s Paul Wackerly made nine birdies on the day against a lone bogey on the tough par-4 18th to finish at 8-under par 64. Wackerly hit a great shot at his last, the par-3 ninth, to leave himself a birdie look below the hole from about 9 feet. But an old cup sat between his ball and the hole and he couldn’t get that final birdie to drop.

In the afternoon, Mount Vernon’s Connor Curry also did his best to track down Sattler. Turning the front nine at 3-under par 32 with birdies at 3, 5 and 8, Curry then got hot on the back nine. He made an eagle-3 on the par-5 13, followed that up with a birdie at 14, but then failed to birdie the par-5 15th. But he made birdie at the long par-4 16th and par-3 17th to get to 8-under par. He knocked his second shot on 18 to about 25-feet below the hole, then left the tying birdie putt hanging on the right edge of the hole.

In the Senior Professional Division chase, the 52-year-old Paul Wackerly entered both the Pro and Senior Pro events — “double-dipped” along with two other players in the field — and for his effort won the Senior Pro pot in addition to his T2 in the main event. He topped another double-dipper for the Old Pro title, the six-time Ohio Senior Open champ Bob Sowards of Dublin, by three shots.

In the Amateur Division, Massillon’s Jarrod Kasunick played late in the day, and slowly made his way in front of the lowest posted score in the clubhouse, a 3-under par 69 by three players.

The 28-year old former Malone player turned the front nine in 2-under par 33, made an eagle-3 at the par-5 13th to get one in front of the clubhouse lead, made another birdie at the par-5 15th to get two shots clear.

At the challenging 16th and 17th holes, Kasunick made two pars and knew he had a two shot lead on the last. His tee shot left him with a fairly long second shot, which missed the green just right and slightly past the pin — a tricky spot on the heavily sloping 18th green. But with a good lie, he launched a flop shot high into the air, and the ball settled to about 7 feet away. Kasunick calmly took his two putts to make the only bogey of his day, claimin an outright Tigertown Amateur victory.

Joshua Clay of North Canton, Benjamin Bridges of Mount Vernon, and Brian Myers of Wadsworth all shared second place, one shot behind.

Howard Clendenin

In the Senior Amateur Division, Howard Clendenin of Fairlawn successfully defended his Tigertown Open title, posting a solid 6-under par 66 to win by one shot over Bobby Spino of New Franklin and Tom Laubacher of Aurora. Last year, Clendenin won the Senior Am Division in a blowout, posting 9-under par 63 to top Bobby Spino — that time by four shots.

Finally, the most lucrative hole-of-the-day belonged to Evan Yoder of Navarre. In the morning wave, Yoder made an eagle-2 on the par-4 14th hole, good for the only skin won on the day in the Amateur Division. The payout: a tidy $1,600!
