Ontario Golf Hall of Fame member Dave Bunker fired a 5-under par 67 at Piqua Country Club today to earn a spot in the U.S. Senior Open Championship at The Broadmoor East Course in Colorado Springs on June 26-29.
Bunker made a whopping eight birdies against three bogeys to take medalist honors by one shot.
Former PGA TOUR professional Ted Purdy of Tucson finished alone in second place at 4-under par 68, while Kettering amateur Peter Samborsky II won the third qualifying spot outright with a 69 after shooting a back-nine 32.
With four advancing, three players finished T4 at 2-under par 70 and went to a playoff to determine who would get the final qualifying spot in the Broadmoor field. Amateur Bradley Kay of Arlington Heights, IL outlasted professionals Sam Arnold of Cincinnati and Jeff Roth of Harbor Springs, MI to advance.
