Two well-known area golf courses are making big bets with major upgrades to their facilities.
The Tanglewood Club in Chagrin Falls has completed a $1 million renovation project that included substantial course improvements, updated banquet facilities and an entire fleet of new electric golf carts.
“As one of the great tournament-level courses in Greater Cleveland, we wanted to preserve the unique character of this course, while improving the club facilities and providing the best golf value in the region,” said Tanglewood co-owner Mark Tiefel.
The renovation project at Tanglewood includes a new public driving range, restored greens and bunkers, a new cart barn, upgraded drainage and irrigation systems and the removal of more than 1,000 trees.
Over in Brecksville, the Cleveland Metroparks are installing a double-row irrigation system throughout the Sleepy Hollow Golf Course, adding a parking lot full of pipe and hundreds of new sprinkler heads to its fairways. Many of the heads were reclaimed from area golf courses that were recently closed, with the land now owned by the Metroparks.
Work on the back nine has been started and will be completed by July of this year, while the front nine will be taken on in the spring of next year.
“Sleepy Hollow has been ranked as the #14 municipal course in the nation for 2014 by GolfWeek,” said Sleepy Hollow pro John Fiander. “The new irrigation project will only add to the improvements we’ve already made here.”
