Three Ohioans Advance in 2025 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship

Three Ohioans advanced to match play in the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship this past weekend at Troon Country Country Club in Scottsdale, but unfortunately two of them had to immediately face each other in the Round of 64 matches.

Tyler RileyTyler Riley of Findlay advanced through 36-hole qualifying with 73-70=143, slotting into the 28th position in the bracket. But decorated Clevelander Andrew Bailey shot 72-72=144 to slot into the 37th spot, so the two of them played each other in the Round of 64.

Bailey won that All-Ohio meeting 2-up. He plays nationally-recognized amateur Stewart Hagestad of Newport Beach CA today in the Round of 32.

Dublin’s Jeg Coughlin III shot 75-69=144 to take the 43rd bracket position, and defeated his Round of 64 competitor Benjamin Albin of Dallas by 3&2. Coughlin faces another Dallas amateur today, Liam Logan.
