USGA, R&A Ask Manufacturers About 3 Distance-Limiting Rules

The USGA and The R&A today asked the golf equipment manufacturing industry for comments related to three proposed Equipment Rules changes, to ensure their effectiveness in relation to distance limits.

These three proposed changes are a part of the Distance Insights project, which aims to help achieve a more sustainable long-term future for golf.

Two of the proposed rules ideas are to modernize equipment testing protocols, while the third idea is to consider the adoption of a Local Rule to limit the maximum length for clubs other than putters from 48 to 46 inches.

The topics offered are “purely areas for research”, and no solutions or decisions are being proposed at this stage.
