The final round of the 6th Annual WOSGA Cosmopolitan Four-Ball kicked off at 8:30 on Tuesday morning for 15 teams with hopes to beat the forecasted thunderstorms in the early afternoon. Everyone was able to get all 18 holes in without any rain.
After building a 5-shot lead on the first day of the competition, Anna Coccia + Saylor Wharff never let their foot off the gas, both posting better scores on the final day of the tournament. The Ohio Bobcat Women’s Golf pairing each improved by four shots from Monday to Tuesday, and did not post a single bogey on their team card. Coccia + Wharff would end up as the only team under par in the gross division, claiming victory by 15 shots.
Gail Hackett + Alison Cress finished in a tie for second in the Overall Gross Division and subsequently at the top of the Gross Division Flight 1 of with Cari Hetler + Diane Rubin-Schuld. Hackett + Cress would claim the top spot in Flight 1 of the Gross Division by winning the scorecard playoff, done with the USGA method of back-nine total score first.
Chris Allred + Cheryl Bittner won the Gross Flight 2 by three strokes. Allred and Bittner would use their consistent play, posting a team score of 82 each day, to take home the prize in the second Gross Flight. Allred would post the teams only birdie of the tournament on the very popular par-3 15th.
Fiona Connor + Missy Gedeon finished at 14-under par in the Overall Net Division, which put them in tie for first place with Mary Wiley + Stephanie Doraty. Connor + Gedeon would win a scorecard playoff to claim the top spot in the Overall Net Division. A Net-63 on Tuesday, a four-shot improvement from Day 1, would prove to be just enough for Connor and Gedeon.
Mary Wiley + Stephanie Doraty claimed the top spot in Net Flight 1 after coming up just short in the scorecard playoff for the Overall Net Division crown. After posting a net-31 on the front-nine both days, Wiley and Doraty would end the tournament with a net-35 on the back nine.
Susan Siesky + Connie Teitsworth of Wadsworth and New Franklin, took home the top spot in the Net Flight 2. Siesky + Teitsworth were able to post one shot better on Tuesday, coming in with a Net-62 to win their Flight by two strokes.
In a whirlwind of a half-hour period in Round One, there were two aces made on the same hole in back-to back-groups! Mary Wiley and Diane Sabo were both able to put a 1 on the scorecard on the par-3 15th hole. Wiley would start the party, in the 10:48 am group by knocking it in from 153 yards away with a 5-iron. Just minutes later, in the 11:00 am group, Sabo was able to match Wiley with a 153 yard 7-wood that would also find its way into the cup. Congratulations to both women on an accomplishment that will be talked about at many WOSGA events in the future!
