WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS: In its perpetual effort to give back to the community, the Northern Ohio PGA Foundation will stage the 7th annual Birdies & Charity event on Monday, September 21st, at the Country Club of Hudson.
Approximately 70 members of the Northern Ohio Section of the Professional Golfers Association — representing approximately 25 local clubs and facilities — will participate in the event, which has raised more than $800,000 for the NOPGA Foundation in its previous six years.
The area professionals have secured pledges of various amounts from their respective club members for every birdie they make over CCH’s 6,725 yards.
ALL proceeds are donated to support the Foundation.
The goal is for each PGA Professional to play 72 holes in one day, but it is not uncommon for some professionals to exceed the 72-hole goal. It is hoped the event will surpass last year’s effort, when more than $147,000 was raised as the professionals made nearly 900 birdies at Medina Country Club.
Funds raised help support the Northern Ohio PGA Section Foundation’s charitable initiatives, including:
- PGA HOPE – Provides free golf instruction and continued playing opportunities for Veterans and Active-Duty Military. Our PGA HOPE programming serves more than 320 Veterans annually.
- Clubs Fore Kids – Provides golf clubs and other resources to juniors and school golf programs in need. Approximately 135 sets of clubs were distributed in 2025. Foundation members expect to exceed that total in 2026.
- College Scholarships – More than $120,000 in scholarships has been awarded to Northern Ohio students in recent years.
- Junior Tour Financial Assistance – Helps families cover Junior Tour memberships and tournament entry fees so financial circumstances do not prevent children from participating.
- Community Grants – Provides support to other charitable organizations throughout Northern Ohio that align with the Foundation’s mission.
“At the end of the day, Birdies & Charity isn’t really about how many holes our professionals can play or how many dollars we raise,” said David Griffith, Executive Director of the Northern Ohio PGA. “It’s about the people those dollars reach.
“It’s the Veteran who finds a new sense of community through PGA HOPE, the high school golfer who finally has a set of clubs to call their own, or the family that doesn’t have to tell their child that golf simply isn’t something they can afford. Our PGA Professionals get to see those stories firsthand, and I think that’s what makes them willing to give so much of themselves to this event. Every birdie made that day could make a real difference in someone’s life.”
Tentative Schedule
- 8:00 a.m. – Registration & Continental Breakfast
- 8:50 a.m. – Call to Carts & Announcements
- 9:00 a.m. – Shotgun Start
- Professionals will play continuously throughout the day, with a target pace of approximately two hours per 18 holes.
