Kaitlyn Hoover and Chaz Ekoniak fired power numbers Friday on Day 1 of the 36-hole ‘Joe’ Dickey Electric Greatest Golfer Junior Championships.
Both used a great sunny day at Avalon Lakes as Hoover, of New Wilmington, went 71 to grab a 7-shot lead on her division. Struthers’ Ekoniak has a 3-shot lead over Thomas Pesa of Ursuline.
Day 2 of the Kreps Drywall u17 finals tees off at 11 a.m. Saturday at Squaw Creek, and will be joined by the 18-hole Dr. Flauto Championship of the u14 division.
Four juniors champs were already crowned from Thursday’s Panera Long Drive / Par 3 Juniors Skills Shootout at Trumbull Country Club. Congrats to:
— Par 3 Champ – Chaz Ekoniak, Struthers High, 9 feet, 5 inches from 140 yds out
— Long Drive Champ – Nolan Froelich, Ursuline, 298 yards longest
— Par 3 Champ- Luciana Masters, Hickory High, 5 feet 9 inches from 100 yards out
— Long Drive Champ – Sophia Rivera, Boardman High School, 222 yards.
