The North Coast Junior Tour hosted an 18-hole event on Wednesday at Chardon Lakes Golf Course.
Ty Roediger (Chardon), along with his group of Will Mylen (Cleveland Heights) and Will Cody (Shaker Heights) played 18 holes at Chardon Lake like their hair was on fire. The leading threesome teed it up just before 8am, made the turn at 9:15am and had the clubs back in the trunk before 11am, a 2 hour and 50 minute round which left them wondering, “is it too early to eat a hotdog?” (btw, it’s never too early to eat a hotdog) The fast pace benefited Ty over the rest of the field as he claimed victory with a score of two-over-par (38-35) 73. His two birdies on the back nine, contributed to a two stroke win over Andrew Engler (Mentor) 39-36–75.
Carter Pinney (Hunting Valley) (34-40–74) started fast, stumbled late but held on to win the boys 13 to 15 age division at Chardon Lakes. Starting his round with two straight birdies had Carter on 59 watch. Steady play for the bulk of his round was interrupted by a hiccup on 17, a double bogey left him just one shot ahead of clubhouse leader, Aiden Curtis (Mentor) (40-35–75). Curtis, who’s been on a tear as of late, had three birdies over his last 7 holes, but a bogey on the same 17th made the difference as Pinney parred 18 to claim the Champions trophy.
Sam Miller (Solon) came out hot, birdieing her first hole enroute to a trophy grabbing 48-45–93. Taylor Wallingford (Concord) finished second in the age group, the second straight year that she’s finished runner up at Chardon Lake.
