Chase Recio is the Match Play Champion!
In two days of brutal heat and humidity at Punderson State Park Golf Course in Newbury, Chase Recio of Fairview, PA captured the Jim Dawson Match Play Championship title with a steady performance to claim victory over Ty Roediger of Chardon in the Boys 16-19 Division. While total strokes are not considered in match play, Chase had just one bogey and 13 pars to claim a 5&4 win. Proving that short game wins championships, Chase had seven up and downs on the day including saves on the last 4 holes to claim the title.
In Tuesday’s semi-final matches, Chase bested defending champion Lincoln Miller (Concord) 5&4 while Ty won by the same margin over Sammie Heiser from Pepper Pike.
Hamilton Steady in Boys 15 and Under
In the Boys 15 and under age group, it was Hamilton Miller from Concord taking home the hardware. Consistent ball striking throughout the sultry round put Miller in position to close the match on the par 4 16th. Miller sank a 10-foot putt up the hill for par to defeat Julius Braho of University Heights 3&2. It was the first match play victory for the rising freshman.
