“Have You Ever Seen The Rain?” Keira Chang (Chagrin Falls) certainly did as the skies opened up late in the round to soak the competition at Pine Ridge Country Club in Wickliffe. That didn’t deter Keira from claiming her second tour victory of the week by way of a 44-41–85 to claim the Champions Cup. Chang carded nine pars and a birdie enroute to the win. Lillian Kasper (Concord) recovered from a nervous start to finish as runner-up. Improving 9 strokes from the front to the back, Kasper finished with 7 pars and a birdie enroute to a 51-42–93.
Ty Roediger (Chardon) and Ralph Zappola (Willoughby) played their 18 hole round in 3 hours and 8 minutes, had it taken 3 hours and 9 minutes, they would have driven home drenched like most of the rest of the field. Luckily, their speedy play meant for good rhythm for Ty as he matched his career low round in finishing with an even par 71. Wedges were the star of the day for Ty, who’s three birdie, three bogey round bested the Boys 16 to 19 age group by 5 strokes over playing partner Zappolo (41-35–76). It was the second victory in as many events for Roediger who was also the victor at Tanglewood. Lincoln Miller (Concord) was third (36-41–77).
Iulius Braho (University Heights) continued his steady play in claiming the Boys 15 and Under age group. Playing his final two holes in biblical rain, Braho finished par-par to card a 10 over par round of 81 (42-39). Braho finished 8 strokes ahead of a pair of golfers, Liam Siko (Mentor; 44-45–89) and Lorenzo Salvatore (Highland Heights; 43-46–89).
Ty Roediger and Ralph Zappolo went one-two in today’s event and also in the overall Boys division for the 2-day World Ranking Junior Series (WRJS) event. Ty had rounds of 77-71–148 and Ralph six back at 78-76–154. All players scores in the WRJS event will be posted to the Junior Golf Scorecard’s World Rankings, the #1 college golf recruiting ranking.
