CANTON, Ohio – Nick Paez of GolfTEC – Cleveland West and Tony Milam of the North Coast Junior Tour won the Northern Ohio PGA Shoot-Out on Monday at Brookside Country Club, defeating Mark Evans (Mayfield Country Club) and Jaysen Hansen (Tippecanoe Country Club) on the final hole of the three-hole alternate-shot competition.
Paez and Milam secured the victory with a two-putt birdie on the par-5 18th hole after Evans and Hansen made par. The win marked Milam’s second NOPGA Shoot-Out title and Paez’s first.
The event began with 16 teams of the top 16 best seniors and 16 regular division players competing in an 18-hole, one-best-ball-of-two qualifier, with the top four teams advancing to the shootout. Mitch Camp (PGA of America Life Member) and Adam Lewicki (Portage Country Club) led qualifying with a 4-under-par 67, while Evans and Hansen, Eric Kulinna (Mohawk Golf & Country Club) and Anthony Panepento (Canterbury Golf Club), and Milam and Paez each posted 3-under 68s to advance. With six teams tied at 68, the USGA-recommended method of matching scorecards determined the final three qualifying spots.
Evans and Hansen finished second in the shootout, followed by Camp and Lewicki in third and Kulinna and Panepento in fourth. The event featured a $12,000 purse made possible through the support of Scott Mawaka of Fleet Response. The Northern Ohio PGA’s next event is the NOPGA Staff Revenge Day on Monday, October 26th at Red Tail Golf Club.
