2026 U.S. Amateur Local Qualifying took place at Shaker Heights Country Club in Shaker Heights. 112 amateurs teed up on Monday with hopes of earning their spot in Final Qualifying for the 126th U.S. Amateur Championship held at Merion Golf Club and Philadelphia Country Club.
Mason Deal, a rising senior at The University of Toledo, and AJ Wilhelm, a rising senior at Xavier University, both claimed their spots in Final Qualifying by shooting 2-under, 68. Wilhelm’s round was highlighted by seven straight birdies starting on hole 13, while Deal remained steady throughout the day with five birdies of his own.
Also finishing under par for the day were John Carroll’s Austin Malley, University of Denver’s Matthew Novak, and Youngstown State University’s Ayden Richmond. The three shot 1-under, 69, to clinch their Final Qualifying spots as well.
Nico Ward, Matt Michallow, and Jack Julian finished even-par and qualified, too.
The final four qualifying spots were decided by a sudden-death playoff between six players who all finished with a score of 1-over, 71. Ultimately, Ryan Hall, Nooa Hakala, Alek Mauro, and Bailey Donahue claimed the final qualifying slots.
Ryan Banas will serve as the first alternate, while Leo Walling is the second alternate.
Monday’s event was also highlighted by Jon Kaplan‘s hole-in-one on the 105-yard par 3, hole 16.
