Three players tied for medalist at Miami Valley Golf Club today to secure a place in the U.S. Senior Open Championship. Five-time PGA Tour winner Ben Crane, former U.S. Open competitor Cliff Kresge and two-time West Virginia Open champion and amateur Jonathan Clark all fired 4-under-par 67 to earn their place at Scioto Country Club.
All three medalists carded a 33 on the front nine to set themselves up for success on the final nine.
Brandt Jobe of Mooresville, North Carolina, recorded a 3-under-par 68 to take fourth and amateur Bradford Kuester of Knoxville, Tennessee, fired a 2-under-par 69 to place fifth and advance to the championship.
A 6-for-5 playoff determined the final qualifying positions into the championship with Mark Wilson, Doug Hanzel, Paul Wackerly, Craig Bowden and head golf professional at Miami Valley Golf Club, Rik Cramer, claiming the five remaining spots. Tom Werkmeister of Hudsonville, Michigan, is the first alternate.
A second 5-for-1 playoff was held to determine the second alternate position, with Sam Arnold of Cincinnati, Ohio, securing the spot.
The 46th U.S. Senior Open Championship will be contested at Scioto Country Club on July 2-5.
