The morning of Day 1 of the Cleveland Metroparks Golf Match Play Championship went smoothly with great weather, and the qualifying scores reflected it.
Luke Liberatore led the way with a 2-under par 69 in the stroke play qualifier to claim the top seed. Close on his heels were Tyler Ankrom and Chris Okeson, both shooting 73.
The top 16 qualifying players were posted into the A Flight bracket, with the bottom 16 set into B Flight.
The afternoon matches brought a challenge, however, as some rain and hail paused the first round of match play. After about a 45-minute delay, players were able to get the afternoon matches going again and finish just before darkness set in.
There were some close matches in the opening bracket in the B Flight, with three of the head-to-head matchups requiring extra holes. But the results of the Round of 16 A Flight matches were more clear cut.
Quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be played on Saturday at Shawnee Hills. See the link below for NOGA Live Scoring.
