Timmy Hollenbeck was the medalist at the 104th Miami Valley Metropolitan Championship this week at Beavercreek Golf Club with a score of 12-under-par and a bogey-free 67 in the final round.
A tight leaderboard going into the final round of the Championship promised an exciting last day. With Cameron Phillips and Logan Sutto tied at 9-under-par and three players close behind at 7-under, the champion title was anyone’s to claim.
Hollenbeck played his last nine holes at 3-under-par to secure his victory down the stretch. A birdie on 15 and three consecutive pars to close the round would make all the difference. All week, Hollenbeck showed that he was not afraid of red numbers, posting an impressive two eagles and 19 birdies across four rounds.
Sutto finished in solo second at 11-under-par with a final round of 70. Rylan Wotherspoon would make a reappearance in the top three today, finishing right behind Sutto with a final score of 10-under-par.
Hollenbeck’s hard-fought victory also came with exemptions into the U.S. Amateur Championship at Merion Golf Club on August 10-16 and the Ohio Amateur Championship at The Virtues Golf Club on July 20-24. The top three finishers all earned exemptions into final qualifying for the 2027 U.S. Amateur Championship.
