The Northern Ohio Golf Association’s 6th Annual Lewis Cup proved to be the closest match in the history of the event. The final round took place on Sunday at Westfield Country Club’s North Course. Twelve Amateurs and twelve Senior/Super Senior Amateurs competed for this year’s coveted team title.
The tournament started on Saturday with six teams of two from each side playing a 9-Hole Four-Ball match. Then, 9-Hole Foursomes matches against the same set of competitors followed. The teams were tied after the first 9 holes, but the Amateurs held a four-point lead going into Sunday’s round after their success in the Foursomes matches.
The Senior team wasn’t giving up without a fight, though. After a pep talk from team captain Howard Clendenin following round 1, the Seniors rallied to win seven out of the twelve matches on Sunday and managed to tie two others.
The result ended in a team win for the Senior Amateurs for the second straight year in a row. The Senior team overcame the largest deficit in tournament history and has now won three of the six Lewis Cup titles. This year’s winning team consisted of the following players:
