This weekend, 52 adaptive golfers traveled from across the nation to compete at the 4th Annual Ohio Adaptive Open Championship presented by the John T. Reis Foundation and conducted by the Northern Ohio Golf Association. The Championship was hosted at Seneca Golf Course in Broadview Heights. This year’s Championship featured one of the most competitive fields in tournament history, and the leaderboard was constantly moving throughout the day.
The best example of that would be Syracuse, New York’s Ricky Reilly, as it truly came down to the final putt. To take this year’s Men’s Overall title, Reilly would overcome a 5-shot deficit during round 2 to win the Championship by just 1 shot over round 1 leader Mario Dino. Reilly carded 5 birdies throughout his round, including a clutch final-hole birdie to earn him the Overall lead.
The Women’s Division was no easy feat either. Cassie Sengul was just 1 shot up on 2023 Champion, Ryanne Jackson, going into the final round. Both Sengul and Jackson remained consistent throughout the day, but ultimately, Sengul kept the momentum going and took the Overall title.
A new addition to this year’s Championship was the Senior Division. The first-ever Senior Division Champion is Todd Manion of Greenfield, Indiana. Manion won by nearly 20 shots, carding rounds of 83-84 for a 167 total.
Michael Gegick, an Akron, Ohio native, took The Turn Division title. Gegick edged Lancaster, Ohio’s Dennis Gierhart by just one stroke to win the Division.
The Northern Ohio Golf Association continues to take pride in this event and how much it’s grown in just four short years. We enjoy the camaraderie and joy that comes from the adaptive community and are looking forward to the 2027 Championship.
