After three days of competition at Marion Country Club, the 50th Ohio Junior Girls Championship crowned its champion on Tuesday.
Conducted by the Northern Ohio Golf Association and the Women’s Ohio State Golf Association, the championship celebrated 50 years of Ohio’s top junior girls competing for one of the state’s most prestigious titles. For the first time, the champion also earned an exemption into the 2026 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship at Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham, North Carolina.
With a two-way tie for first heading into the final day, Tuesday’s round was sure to be an exciting one. And the girls did not disappoint.
The top of the leaderboard shifted throughout the day, but ultimately, Plain City native Nikitha Suresh held onto the top spot, earning the title and an exemption into the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship.
This feat didn’t come easy for the rising junior at Dublin Jerome. Suresh overcame a five-shot deficit after her first round to claim her title. Her round 2 score of 4-under, 68, pushed her into contention, where she finished the tournament with a 1-over, 73. Suresh was the only player in the field with a 3-day score that was under par.
Medina’s Elizabeth Coleman put up a fight all 3 days. Coleman finished just behind Suresh with a 3-day score of just 1-over par, earning her solo second. 2025 champion, Meadow Tian, carded a 3-day score of 3-over par and secured a 3rd place finish and the 16-18 Division title.
Anna Phillips kept her cool throughout the tournament as she remained in the lead for the 14-15 Division all 3 days. Phillips finished just 5-over par for the tournament to tie Amelia Buettner, a rising sophomore at Olentangy Orange.
Buettner was nine shots off the lead after the first day, but her final rounds of a combined 1-under par allowed her to overtake the lead after a scorecard playoff using the USGA method in the 14-15 Division.
Tuesday’s round was also highlighted with a hole-in-one by Charlotte Soller just moments after the tournament commenced. Soller hit a 7-iron on hole 9, a 147-yard par 3.
