Round 1 of the 50th Ohio Junior Girls Championship is underway at Marion Country Club in Marion, Ohio. The 2026 championship, conducted by the Northern Ohio Golf Association and the Women’s Ohio State Golf Association, celebrates 50 years of the top junior girl golfers in Ohio competing for the title.
New this year, the girls have the opportunity to win exemption into the 2026 U.S. Girls Junior Championship at Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham, NC.
The tournament started with a bang, as last year’s second-place finisher, Elizabeth Coleman, came back and was ready to fight for the title. Her opening round of 3-under, 69, was highlighted by a bogey-free, 4-under par back nine. Coleman, a Ball State University commit, carded 6 birdies over the course of the day and earned herself the lead by two strokes going into day two.
Finishing just behind Coleman and leading the 14-15 age group is Anna Phillips. Phillips carded a 1-under, 71, to earn her spot on the leaderboard. The Chesterland native kicked it into gear on the back nine, making an eagle on 13 and finishing with a 3-under, 34.
Even-par earned 3 players a spot in third going into day 2. Just three shots off the lead are Hudson High School’s Elena Varga, Madeira High School’s Ellie Hartung, and 2025 Ohio Junior Girls champion and University of Illinois commit, Meadow Tian.
Round 2 will commence with tee times starting at 8:30 AM on Monday morning.
