Five Teams Tie for First Place at Firestone in Pro-Pro Better Ball
A field of 114 players took on the iconic South Course at Firestone Country Club for the Northern Ohio PGA Pro-Pro and Season Long Team Match Play Qualifier, where five teams finished tied atop the leaderboard at 5-under-par 65 in the better ball format.
Defending champions Blake Sattler (Brookside Country Club) and Sean Kenily (Union Country Club) matched their strong form from last season by posting a 65, alongside impressive rounds from Mark Bixler (Kirtland Country Club) + Garrett Korte (PGA of America), Randy Dietz (Windmill Golf Center) + Cory Kumpf (Brookside Country Club), Tom Waitrovich (PGA of America Life Member) + Mitch Camp (PGA of America Life Member), and Nick Paez (GolfTEC – Cleveland West) + Scott Pollack (1899 Indoor Golf – Twinsburg)
Despite early concerns about weather, the event dodged looming storms and turned into a perfect day for competition.
In addition to serving as a standalone event, the tournament acted as the qualifier for the Season Long Team Match Play Championship, with Sattler and Kenily securing the No. 1 seed thanks to their victory in last year’s championship.
The Northern Ohio PGA tournament schedule continues next Monday, May 12, with the Club Car / Pepsi Stroke Play #1 Stableford at Fairlawn Country Club.
